Patrick Herbez, manager, Application Development, Advantasure may have only been employed at Advantasure for five years, but the skills, expertise and leadership he’s displayed in that time make him an integral part of the team.
He’s too modest to tell you himself, but his colleagues credit him for helping to build many of the products that form the core of Risk Adjustment and Quality Products in the Analytics area. Of course, this doesn’t happen without the support a team that not only believes in his vision but also follows it.
A former developer himself, and a mechanical engineer by trade, Patrick provides leadership through hands-on guidance and subject-matter expertise to three teams of developers. Three key characteristics of a mechanical engineer include strong listening skills, creativity designing and building complex things and extensive problem-solving skills – all things that are second nature to Patrick.
Originally from France, Patrick’s strong work ethic complements the work he does day-managing three teams of developers. He jumps into emerging situations and mentors other engineers on how to solve problems and improve the quality of their work.
With more than 20 years of experience, Patrick’s work experience leading teams and solving complex problems equips him to take on the toughest challenges.
“As a leader, you’re often called into many different directions at the same time and are in and out of meetings, while trying to put out or prevent fires,” said Patrick. “In my role, I have to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the team.”
Patrick’s teams work on and support Advantasure’s products and initiatives that include medical record retrieval (MRR), natural language processing (NLP) and provider enrichment and risk optimization.
“My team’s goal is to manage the transfer of data between Advantasure, vendors and clients,” said Patrick “The work we do on inter-processes or components, is what makes our business effective.”
A key to his professional success is his ability to change with the times and following the latest trends in technology. That includes managing challenges and recognizing areas of opportunity for the team. Part of that means building a strong team environment despite a team of introverts who might otherwise prefer to work independently.
And on those challenging days, Patrick relies on his self-motivation to drive him.
“Every day, I get up and I’m excited to conquer the day,” said Patrick. “I begin each day with a vision of what I want to achieve, and then, I create a plan of attack to achieve it.”
A proud family man, Patrick adores his wife and children. “I’m most proud of having a happy family and celebrating the success of my adult children,” said Patrick. “Family is very important to me.”
Outside business hours, Patrick is working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reading, traveling or managing home improvement projects.
