As chief operating officer, Johanna Hower drives Advantasure operations, ensuring achievement of the company’s client delivery, financial, operational and talent objectives. With 25 years of success in health care, Johanna has deep experience leading strategic operations. She has been responsible for significantly improving operational performance at a number of health plan organizations with government-sponsored health care programs and has been recognized as an expert in new-market development and staff management.
Extensive experience in leadership roles
For three years at Gateway Health Plan in Pittsburgh, Johanna served as vice president of both operations and business implementation, directing day-to-day operations with a focus on strategic planning functions for Medicare and Medicaid programs. Her extensive management skills led Gateway to call on her, as well, to serve in several interim positions, including COO, vice president of business development, and executive director for Medicaid.
Leading Medicaid initiatives and project teams
Earlier, Johanna was chief operating officer for Medicaid new markets with Aetna. During her 14 years with Aetna organizations, she also served as senior director of Medicaid strategic initiatives, supervising multiple program and project teams. She was promoted into senior leadership from her position as director of site operations for Aetna Medicaid, where she led health plan operations as well as large-scale projects ranging from process improvement initiatives to call management software upgrades.
During her career, Johanna held a number of other positions in the health care industry, including director of Medicaid encounters and director of business application management for Schaller Anderson (acquired by Aetna), vice president of operations and implementation at EOS Companies, and operations leadership roles during seven years with UnitedHealthcare.
Education in business
Johanna earned a bachelor’s degree in international business and modern language from the University of Pittsburgh.
